Through our Best of the Bunch series, we gave a recap on the Eurovision entries from 2006 to 2015 and gave you the opportunity to choose your Best of the Bunch. As you may remember, the current Best of the Bunch winners were put into our ‘Ultimate Eurovision’ but it’s time to see which of the latest three entries have remained as your favourites! In our Best of the Bunch: The Trials series, we are going to recap the entries from a certain nation starting with 2016 and continuing through to the latest Eurovision season of 2018. Your job is to simply enjoy the music, and vote for your Best of the Bunch winner!
Today we’re travelling to Armenia, a nation that is still fairly new to Eurovision in the context of things! Armenia first made their debut in 2006, and as for debuts, it was a fairly successful! Their first five participations yielded Top 10 results, and there have been a few since, but lately it has been more of a mixed bag. Today we’ll be looking closely at the latest three entries from Armenia, and then it will be your choice on who is the Best of the Bunch!
Armenia 2016
We have seen some great male performers represent Armenia at Eurovision, but when we look back over the history of the nation at Eurovision, there’s no denying that Armenia have had some fierce female performers. Iveta Mukuchyan is just that, a super fierce performer! Her song LoveWave was a hit with the Eurovision fans, and a strong favourite with the voters as well, and it’s easy to see why. It’s a strong entry with powerful choreography, and that’s why it qualified into the final in second place. As for the final, the song ended up in a very respectable 7th place with a total of 249 points.
Armenia 2017
Speaking of fierce female performers, Armenia sent yet another strong competitor in 2017 with Artsvik, who was selected first as an artist through Depi Evratesil and then later on the song was released. As we know, that song was the ethnic inspired track Fly With Me which left the door open for epic staging. The song managed to tell a story within just 3 minutes, and the package was elevated with the well-choreographed stage performance. The song qualified into the final at 7th place, and then in the final finished in 18th place with a total of 79 points.
Armenia 2018
That brings us to the most recent Armenian entry! As you will remember, through a national final, Armenia selected Sevak Khanagyan with the ballad Qami which was the first full Armenian language song to represent the nation at Eurovision. It was an entry that flew completely under the radar during this year’s Eurovision season, and with an understated stage performance, perhaps it was too under the radar as it failed to qualify to the final despite a moving vocal performance. In a strong semi-final, Qami finished in 15th place with 79 points, giving Armenia their second non-qualification.
